The definitive reissue of one of the finest albums from Italy’s 1970s progressive underground. This is composer and alto-saxophonist Sandro Brugnolini’s masterpiece. For the first time since its 1970 release on the tiny production library label Sincro Edizioni Musicali, it’s been pressed from Brugnolini’s original master tapes.

Overground was created as the soundtrack to Enrico Moscatelli and Mario Rigoni's documentary Persuasione, commissioned by a local tourism board in Italy, with music featuring some of the best musicians in Italy at the time: Angelo Baroncini and Silvano Chimento on guitars, Giorgio Carnini on piano and organ, Enzo Restuccia on drums, and Giovanni Tommaso on bass and effects. The music spans from psychedelic rock to avant-garde to jazz, in a way, fitting next to the best by the likes of David Axelrod, Galt MacDermot, and Jean Claude Vannier – and of course alongside the grooviest Italian albums, like Stefano Torrossi’s legendary Feelings, on which Brugnolini himself appears.
The music has been transferred and remastered from the original master tapes. It has been lacquer cut in stereo by Jukka Sarapää at Timmion Cutting. “I got the original master tapes from Mario, Sandro’s son, and we got them transferred and remastered. We're releasing the album with the exact, original track listing as it has been conceived,” Fabrizi states.
Packed in a thick cardboard sleeve featuring a fully restored painting by Umberto Mastroianni licensed by Centro Studi dell’Opera di Umberto Mastroianni, this is not only the best Overground has sounded, but the best its looked. “John Henrikson did a great research with the artwork: we're both convinced that the original painting was a personal gift of Mastroianni to Maestro Brugnolini because there are no traces of it at all.”
