Diplomatics were a high school ensemble from Indiana lead by Rodney Stepp and funk wunderkind Miles “Butch” Loyd. They released only one 45 on Herb Miller’s LAMP imprint. “Hum Bug” was the Dips’ attempt at creating a Meters-inspired dance a la “Cissy Strut,” complete with a drum break. For this 7-inch release, we showcase the record in its original two-part form, mastered from the original analog tapes.
The band later went on to record for the Knaptown label under the moniker Jazzie Cazzie and The Seven Sounds.
