Magic Isle at Rappcats, Oct. 5-6, 2024

The Magic Isle Disquaire: Specializing in African, Latin, Caribbean & Francophone original pressings

Magic Isle at Rappcats, Oct. 5-6, 2024

THE MAGIC ISLE, will have a 2-day pop-up shop at Rappcats - 5638 York Blvd, Los Angeles - Sat-Sun, October 5-6, Noon to 6 PM.

With over 50 years of combined travel and digging worldwide, Dave Park and Noel Waggener's forthcoming presentation at Rappcats is the manifestation of their love for African, Caribbean, Latin, and Francophone sounds--and the people and places from which those sounds eminante.

Waggener, who some may know as an art director/designer, or as the eBay seller lucke.dog, first encountered Latin sounds while on the hunt for Brown-Eyed Soul records in his native San Antonio, TX. With the mentorship of some old school Latinx collectors, he branched out into Boogaloo, Salsa and Rock'n'Roll en Español. Trips to Jamaica and the French Caribbean, as well as DJing for the Reggae-centric Domino Sound System, deepened his love for Tropical music of all stripes. As a Francophile and regular visitor to France, it 's natural that the sounds of Africa and the French Beat of the 1960's would come into his collecting ouvre.

Dave Park is an educator, author and musician, who has lived and worked in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. Fortunate to learn from and absorb these experiences, he was also lucky to pick up records along his journeys. As a DJ, musician and producer under the moniker Dub Insurgent, Park has released music on various labels in the US and UK, including for the Joe Strummer Foundation. Park views The Magic Isle presentations as an extension of his mission to share the joy of these deep musical cultures.

The Magic Isle is an idea. An aesthetic. A Tropical dream. We invite you to visit us on the island for aural treasures known and unknown.
